For years, this site has been at the forefront of the opposition to offshore oil drilling. Our various pages contain examples of animal cartoons opposed to the idea.

But those cartoons are not meant to be funny. They are meant to be a humorous way to remind us that our insatiable appetite for natural energy resources are a threat to innocent animal life. Why should those silent creatures pay for our inability to get energy wise? I don't have the alternative solution, but I can tell one that is not when I see it.

The recent and still ongoing crisis created by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is the most recent example of the dangers of underwater oil exploration. It does not matter how low the probability of an oil spillage is. All you need is one big incident like the present one and a catastrophe is in the making.  We hate to say "I told you so," but we are not opposed to pointing our fingers to irresponsible politicians who take this issue slightly and entertain their bored audiences with yells like:"Drill baby, drill." Not if we are drilling someone else's grave. And they are not funny either.

And that continues to be our position.
